How to Sit on the Floor in a Saree
With so many festivals and poojas coming up (hello, Diwali!), you know what that means: lots of sitting on the floor in your saree. It can feel a little nerve-racking. Will your pleats survive? Can you get back up gracefully? Yes and yes. It all comes down to holding on to two things: your pallu and your pleats.
Sitting down
- Hold your pallu (the loose end over your shoulder) so you don't end up sitting on it.
- Gather all of your pleats with your left hand and give them a quick shake.
- Sit down cross-legged, just like you normally would.
Getting back up
- Wrap your pallu around your hand so you don't step on it.
- Grab as many pleats as you can. They'll have spread out a bit, and that's totally okay.
- Uncross your legs and put one hand on the floor for support.
- Stand up, shake out your pleats, and you're good to go.
